The county seat of St. Louis County, Clayton has a population of about 16,000 people and has a total area of 2.48 square miles.
Clayton’s strong economy is anchored by many large company headquarters, such as Brown Shoe, Centene, Olin, Straub’s Markets, Armstrong Teasdale and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Many educational institutions are wholly or partially located in Clayton: Washington University, Concordia Seminary, Fontbonne University and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
